Throughout the tropics and subtropics and its strongly migratory, Japan
(Hokkaido, Honshu, Ogasawara, Shikoku, Kyushu, Tsushima, Yakushima, Tokara-Is,
Ie-Is, Okinawa, Taketomi-Is, Ishigakijima, Iriomotejima) 旧大陸のものは原名亜種とされる. 日本では西南部一帯にひろく産出し, 中部以北でも北海道に至るまで採集記録があるが, 出現はおおむね秋季に限られるので, 発生を継続しつつ中距離の移動を行うものと推定される. |

| Biology | 新旧両大陸に共通するワタの害虫として著名,日本国内ではワタの害虫として注目されたことはなく, ワタ以外のアオイ科植物を食草としていると思われ, 東京都内ではフヨウについた幼虫が観察されている. | ||

♂の触角は両櫛歯状, ♀では糸状. ♂♀色彩を異にし, ♂では基部のみ黄色, その外方は橙褐色に紫灰色部を混ずる. ♀では単調な黄色で外半部に紫白色影を混ずる. |
